One of my past times is to sit down in my computer chair, kick my feet up, take a sip of my drink, turn the tv on and watch some of my favorite animation shows such as family guy. I used to like the simpsons but i rarely watch it now because I have seen all the episodes. No I do not think that family guy or other shows in general have taken anything to far, the tv show does not make you watch it and if you were to find it offensive then stop watching. If I was a parent I would let my child watch it at a reasonable age, usually the humour in these shows doesnt actually become relevant to a child until probably the age of 10-12. What's better, laughing at something on family guy or watching 9/11 re-runs on the news, which is worse for a child?
